There Is No Truce. The US and China Are in a "Geopolitical Freeze."
The framing is all wrong about the economic war
Many headlines are using the word “truce” to describe the US-China tariff pause for 90 days. This is more than a mistake. It is inaccurate and dangerously misleading. It makes it seem like Washington and Beiing are putting down their swords, when in fact, they are not.
Who said there was a truce?
China has not removed all the blocks from the export of rare earth metals, many of which were imposed after US President Trump’s Liberation Day push, and the back and forth that followed. The only approvals Beijing is handing out are for rare earths heading to Europe. But export approvals are being handed out at a speed that many executives view as threatening (to their operations).
