Several years ago, the Chinese government unveiled new data rules that shocked the world, part of a blitz of laws to bolster national security. One of them allowed Beijing to shut down companies if they were found to have mishandled “state data.” This also included the handling of sensitive data in foreign markets.

With the new rulings, China was indirectly expanding its laws into other geographies. Businesses were being prodded to comply with Chinese data rules in other markets.

Such rules were viewed as “China overstepping.” But, to those paying attention, there was something else, a major sign that China was actively “injecting” its social design and political outlook (culture) into other nations.

Fast forward to today, and a similar set of events are taking place.
