There was a brief moment just before the 2024 US Election when TikTok was in the news with a positive twist. After a podcast interview in August, then-former president and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump vowed to keep the platform in the US market, going against the divest or ban bill passed in April.
It was a dramatic reversal, considering that four years ago, when Trump launched his reelection bid at a rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, it was hijacked by Gen Z/millennials, predominantly through TikTok. This opened the door to a US ban on TikTok, a situation that has snowballed over the years.
In August, the sun briefly shone on TikTok. Of course, it was short-lived.
