In the last days of the Biden administration, the outgoing US President has taken one of his boldest actions yet.

On January 6th, the US Pentagon expanded a blacklist of Chinese firms with ties to the Chinese military. New to the list are global Chinese companies at the heart of complex supply chains and critical ecosystems, like CATL, the world’s largest battery maker, SenseTime, one of China’s leading AI outfits (who was also placed on a Commerce Department’s Entity List which limits business with US firms), Tencent, one of China’s largest technology companies, COSCO, one of the world’s largest shipping firms, and Changxin Memory Technologies, a key Chinese AI and chip company.
