After months of relative quiet, out of the blue, Big Tech is once again colliding with governments. In Canada, Amazon has shuddered its operations in the province of Quebec, walking away from over 8 million residents. In Brazil, almost six months since the ban on X, the Brazilian government is now going after Meta over changes to the companyโs hate speech policies. In Australia, a radical, unprecedented law has been passed, barring under-16s from accessing social media, a policy that will not go into effect for many more months.
However, the most disruptive fight may be brewing across the Atlantic.
