Since the pandemic, the idea of โ€œChina+1โ€ has gained traction globally. While initially, China+1 was about moving certain production out of China and setting up new bases in adjacent markets, it quickly became about something else. As geopolitics ramped up, companies began to view China+1 as a new framework where one manufacturing base would exist exclusively for China and another (new) base would exist for the rest of the world (predominantly the West).

(โ€œAmerica+1โ€ is a concept of Abishur Prakash/The Geopolitical Business, Inc)

Instead of having one manufacturing base for the world, geopolitics was fragmenting global production.

The more flashpoints erupted, particularly the US-China fight, the more China+1 was treated with urgency. As the contours of geopolitics expanded, drawing in more and more countries/regions, equally powerful supply chain strategies formed, including Vietnam+1.
