Like during Trumpโ€™s first term, unpredictability is everywhere once again. For a brief second, there was clarity on all the main trade fights brewing: Mexico, Canada, EU, and China. Then, Trump put the trade spotlight on Russia. After that, Colombia for a hot second. However, none of the โ€œnew fightsโ€ (i.e. Moscow, Bogota) compare to Taiwan.

On January 27, while speaking to House Republicans in Florida, Trump warned that tariffs would soon be imposed on a range of critical imports, from chips to steel to drugs.

The levies could range from 25% to as high as 100%.

This massive escalation could put the global economy on a dangerous trajectory.
